A report in Aviation Week profiles the Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade (NIBBB) to learn that the hobby club's silver-coated "pico balloon" was last picked up via radio signal on Feb. 10 at 38,910 ft. off the west coast of Alaska, and that it was projected to float over central Yukon territory the following day. Funny thing about this product. We were offered this by the inventor back in 2018/2019, somewhere around there, and we just didn't have bandwidth to take it on. Here is a good paper worth reading.

Inactivated pepsin inhibits neutrophil activation by Fcgamma-receptor-dependent and independent stimuli

Abstract
Pepsin is widely used to produce F(ab′)2 fragments of immunoglobulin G (IgG). In many cases, at least part of the pepsin will remain present in the F(ab′)2 preparation, albeit in (irreversibly) inactivated form. Here we report on a potent immunomodulatory effect of irreversibly inactivated pepsin on activated human neutrophils. Degranulation, induced by coated IgG or via cytochalasin B/N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe, was measured by quantifying elastase release, and was found to be inhibited in a dose-dependent manner by inactivated pepsin. Since a number of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) products are also treated by limited digestion with pepsin, we investigated if pepsin would be present in quantities large enough to inhibit neutrophil activation. The amounts of pepsin detected in three different pepsin-treated IVIg products were found to be too low to induce an effect, at least in an in vitro setting.

FDA says Guillain-Barre syndrome is possible risk of Pfizer's RSV vaccine for older adults



KEY POINTS
Two people in their 60s who received Pfizer's RSV shot were diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, out of about 20,000 vaccine recipients.
The FDA sees a potential risk and has asked Pfizer to conduct a safety study on Guillain-Barre after a potential approval, which the company said it would do.
There was also a possible case of Guillain-Barre syndrome in GSK's trials, but the company said there was insufficient evidence to confirm a diagnosis.
The FDA and the study investigator consider the GSK case to be related to the vaccine.
